The fourOsix Featured Artist Program is an ongoing collaboration between fourOsix and local artists. Each month fourOsix will have an in-store art show for the featured artist followed by a showing of the artists work throughout the month.

Jeff Hawe

Jeff Hawe is the currently featured artist here at fourOsix.  Jeff has traveled the globe, photographing unique winter landscapes and takes an artistic look at snowboard photography.  His LARGE-SCALE photographs will be on display at fourOsix until the new-year!

For the winter season, come by fourOsix to check out Coal Headwear (coalheadwear.com). Coal is a brand not normally found in Helena with both style and function in mind. Dozens of styles & colors in stock!

Selling cutting-edge creative fashions, including a homegrown label, Alex “Papu” Rincon, class of 2004, recently opened his fourOsix shop at 318 N. Last Chance Gulch in Helena, Mont. The store’s grand opening, with music by Bozeman hip-hop band Eighttrack Mind, will take place on Wednesday, December 12. Papu has already kicked off his store’s featured artist program, with new artwork showcased monthly, and has grand plans for serving as a smoke-free venue for concerts by Montana musicians.

“Limitless Creativity” best describes the new boutique style clothing and footwear store opened this month by Alex “Papu” Rincon, a Helena resident and Carroll College graduate.

According to Rincon, the store features fashionable clothing, footwear and accessories, as well as a special selection of merchandise that compliments the interests of Montanans including art, music, culture, travel, snow-sports, Montana summers, community, forward thinking and healthy living.

The name “fourOsix” was chosen because it represents all of Montana area code 406.

Rincon’s goal is to supply the demand for clothing, footwear and accessories not currently found in Helena – the brands and styles people go out of town or on-line to purchase.

Once a month the store will also feature a select evening for special events such as the “featured artist” and the “local tunes” program that will display the art and music of Montana artists and musicians. These programs will be an on-going collaboration between artists, musicians, the Helena community and fourOsix.

The store is located at 318 N. Last Chance Gulch, in the heart of Downtown Helena. The hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be extended special hours designated during the Crazy-days sales, holiday shopping season, spring & fall Art-Walks and on Wednesdays in the summer for Alive @ Five. www.fourOsix.com

New downtown store carries creative fashions

Selling cutting-edge creative fashions, including a homegrown label, fourOsix opened for business on November 16 at 318 N. Last Chance Gulch (the former storefront for sole sisters). Proprietor Alex “Papu” Rincon also gave the public a sneak peak at the store during the November 9 Fall Art Walk, when more than 1,500 people came through the doors.

Named after the Treasure State’s area code – the largest such zone in the U.S. – fourOsix carries brands many Montanans may never have heard of, although Papu notes that Carroll students from Seattle are pleasantly surprised to see merchandise on his shelves they’d thought only available on the West Coast.

Organic cotton and bamboo-fiber clothing are filling the racks in the store’s commitment to green-friendly practices. “Every brand I carry is unique, but the clothing, footwear and accessories are really a front for other positive things: art, music, snowsports, and all the different ways to express creativity,” Papu says, as he points out the custom fourOsix design on the line of T-shirts he is now carrying.

After opting to attend Carroll College instead of pursuing a career as a pro-circuit snowboarder, Papu earned degrees in business, Spanish and art in hopes of realizing his dream of launching his own clothing line.

After working as manager of Big Sky Board Sports in Helena, he found himself wooed by Spy Optics and other sports gear companies who saw him as the ideal sales representative. After spending time chasing snow in Utah for a season and traveling in Europe and Venezuela, Papu realized the time had come to return home to Montana and make fourOsix happen.

With a motto of “Limitless Creativity,” Papu says his store is more about promoting the Montana way of living than about pushing merchandise. “I didn’t want some fancy cubicle and a fancy car. I’d rather make less money and have the lifestyle offered here in Montana. The people and uniqueness of Montana is what brought me back. I’m home,” Papu says.

The store’s grand opening, with music by Eighttrack Mind, a Bozeman hip-hop band, will take place on Wednesday, December 12.Meanwhile, Papu already has plans to kick off his store’s featured artist program, with new artists showcased monthly starting December 1, and local tunes, with fourOsix hosting concerts for Montana musicians.“This is a venue where you won’t have to cut your way through the smoke to listen to good music,” Papu says.Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with December bringing Sunday hours for Christmas shoppers.
